Why It Matters
One of Tadao Ando's signature works in the Setouchi region, alongside the Chichu Art Museum and Benesse House on Naoshima. Seven suites, each at least 100 sqm, all with hot springs or dramatic sea views. Opened December 2015 after renovation from a private art museum originally built in 1998. The sommelier holds Ehime Prefecture's first JSA Sommelier Excellence certification.
Seven suites perched on a mountaintop above the Seto Inland Sea, all housed inside a Tadao Ando building that once served as a private guesthouse and then an art museum. The concrete is Ando's signature smooth-as-silk kind — austere, yes, but the views through those floor-to-ceiling windows explain everything. Think of it as staying inside a world-class piece of architecture, where the art on the walls, the kaiseki in the dining room, and the 30-meter infinity pool aligned with the sea are all part of the same considered whole.

On the basement level of the annex, set into the greenery. Wood balcony surrounds the room with lush garden views filling every window. Good for a quiet, secluded stay — reading on the terrace under filtered light is the move here. Up to 3 guests.

Semi-Open-Air Hot Spring Suite — Forest View
Three rooms across the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the annex, each with forest-facing views and the same custom full-flat reclining private onsen. More sheltered and private feeling than the panorama rooms. The terrace here is the only place in the hotel where smoking is permitted.

Located on the 4th floor of the annex building with sweeping panoramic sea views. Features a custom full-flat reclining bath so you can soak in the hot spring lying completely horizontal. The only room type that accepts children. Non-smoking throughout.

THE AONAGI Suite
The hotel's top room, on the 5th floor of the main building. A two-floor maisonette with a sofa and table living area on the lower level and the bedroom plus jacuzzi bathroom above. The expansive windows frame the 'blue' of the Seto Inland Sea in a way that makes every other view feel inadequate. Up to 4 guests. The most popular room in the house.

The hotel's signature outdoor pool runs 30 meters and is oriented to appear to connect with the Seto Inland Sea on the horizon — a dramatic Ando-designed feature. Open for swimming early July to early September only.
Museum-quality artworks are displayed throughout the building, including a Frank Stella painting in the dining room and a large-scale work by calligrapher/visual artist Rieko Kawabe. The building was formerly an art museum and the art collection remains integral to the experience. Dedicated art page on the hotel website details each work.
An 18-hole golf course immediately adjacent to the hotel. Guests can access Elleair Golf Club Matsuyama directly from the property. The hotel provides signs directing guests from the golf club to the retreat.
A private indoor facility combining a hot spring jacuzzi, a sauna with garden views, and a warm-water swimming pool. Can be reserved for exclusive use at any time of year. Direct booking guests receive 1 hour of complimentary use. Available to non-staying day visitors as well.
