Why It Matters
One of Mauritius's most storied luxury resorts — a former Sun Resorts icon that Shangri-La took over and has twice renovated into something sharper. Ilot Mangénie, a short complimentary boat ride away, is the only private-island beach club of its kind on the island. Two championship 18-hole golf courses (Bernhard Langer's Ile aux Cerfs and Ernie Els's Anahita) are accessible with complimentary green fees on stays of 5 nights or more.
Le Touessrok sits on the calm bay of Trou d'Eau Douce on Mauritius's east coast, about 45 km from the airport. Reopened in October 2024 after a four-month top-to-bottom renovation, the property now has a stronger sense of place: rattan furnishings, black-and-white island photography, batik scarves as welcome gifts, dodo motifs nodding to local heritage. The resort spans a mainland wing, a private Frangipani islet reached by bridge, and exclusive guest-only access to the wild, unspoiled Ilot Mangénie — a private-island beach club with no equivalent elsewhere on Mauritius. Two new restaurants (TSK and Coco's) join the post-renovation lineup, and at 30 rooms, 152 suites and 3 villas spread across six beaches and four kilometres of shoreline, this is about as complete a self-contained resort as Mauritius offers.
