LES
Industrial-chic boutique with a pop-culture art edge. Nightlife-forward, downtown-cool crowd. Think Andy Warhol, not white-glove formality.

Why It Matters
One of the first wave of true luxury boutiques to plant a flag on the Lower East Side. The building opened in 2008 and brought Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya — a serious, late-night Japanese restaurant — along with it. The art program alone (Friedlander, Halley, Warhol) is genuinely thoughtful for a hotel at this price point.
SIXTY LES is an 18-story, 136-room boutique on Allen Street — right on the seam where the Lower East Side meets the East Village. The design leans hard into downtown's art-world lineage: Lee Friedlander photographs glow from lightbox headboards, Peter Halley's paintings anchor the lobby, and the rooftop pool has an Andy Warhol portrait tiled into its floor. Rooms are compact by luxury-hotel standards, but the floor-to-ceiling windows and black mirrored walls make them feel anything but cramped. The hotel sets its own nightlife agenda with Make Believe, a rooftop social club with a retractable roof and a DJ lineup that runs until 3am — which is great if you're in your 20s and 30s, and less great if you need to be up early.

The rooftop pool is one of SIXTY LES's signature features — only 3.5 feet deep and not built for laps, but the Andy Warhol portrait on the pool floor makes it worth it. Pool access is included in the nightly facility fee. Open to guests only. Closed in winter.
