Skyview Los Alamos
Mid-century modern meets wine country cool. Think Palm Springs palette, cowhide rugs, colorful headboards, and cactus-pillar carports — all original architecture, thoughtfully restored. The vibe is laid-back and adults-oriented without feeling stiff.
Monday nights: $30 gets you the signature Bates Burger and a martini at Norman.
Why It Matters
Featured in Michelin Guide, Vogue, The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Forbes, and HBO's REmotel. One of the clearest success stories of the American motel revival movement. The house rosé — grown on property, made by the duo behind Scar of the Sea Wines — is reason enough to visit.
A 1959 roadside motel on a hilltop above Los Alamos, California — rescued from genuine abandon (locals really did call it the 'Bates Motel') and reborn by Nomada Hotel Group as one of the West Coast's most-talked-about boutique stays. The five-acre property has 33 rooms, a working 2.5-acre Pinot Noir vineyard, a heated 21+ adults-only pool, and Norman restaurant and bar. Rooms are small by modern hotel standards — the entry-level Cozy Queen tops out at 195 sq ft — but every detail is considered, from Tivoli Bluetooth speakers to locally made FableRune bath products.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Borrow a Linus cruiser bike for a ride down the hill into downtown Los Alamos — about a mile to the main wine-tasting strip on Bell Street. No charge for guests.
Skyview hosts a rotating calendar of events including pool parties, stargazing nights, and seasonal specials. Check the hotel's Happenings page for the current lineup.
Non-hotel guests can purchase day passes to access the heated 21+ adults-only pool starting at noon daily. Availability is limited and advance booking is strongly recommended. Pool floats (Petites Pommes) are available for guest use.
Rent a Unistellar Odyssey smart telescope for in-room or on-property stargazing. App-enabled, no experience required. The hilltop location above LA-light-polluted plains makes for genuinely dark skies. Skyview also hosts periodic organized stargazing events tied to meteor showers, eclipses, and supermoons — 2026 has a packed calendar.
The 2.5-acre on-property Pinot Noir vineyard is tended in partnership with Mikey and Gina Giugni of Scar of the Sea and Lady of the Sunshine Wines. The resulting house Skyview Rosé is available at the hotel and Norman restaurant. Guests can enjoy the vineyard views from their patios and from the Vista Terrace.
