Peak Field Suite Spa Headquarters
Nature-immersive luxury glamping resort meets architectural statement. The design philosophy is about dissolving the boundary between indoors and outdoors — every room, bath, and restaurant faces full floor-to-ceiling glass toward the surrounding mountains and forest. Very quiet. Very intentional. The Snow Peak brand DNA is everywhere, from the gear-rental service to the campfire lounge after dinner.
Overnight guests get exclusive early-morning and late-night onsen access — the spa under stars or at sunrise is the best version of the experience
Why It Matters
Selected for the Michelin Guide hotel collection and winner of the Niigata Gastronomy Award (hotel/ryokan division). Architect Kengo Kuma was briefed to translate Snow Peak's philosophy — moving human activity from indoors to outdoors — into the building itself. The onsen is a 100% private-source natural hot spring (weakly alkaline simple spring), and Restaurant Seppou was developed with input from the owner of Michelin three-star Kagurazaka Ishikawa in Tokyo. There are only seven bookable sleeping units total, making the ratio of space to guests genuinely extraordinary.
Snow Peak is Japan's premium outdoor outfitter, and this is where they actually work — their primary headquarters campus in Niigata's Shimoda-go valley. The Field Suite Spa opened in April 2022 as a spa-villa-restaurant complex designed by architect Kengo Kuma, sitting on the same 15-hectare hilltop grounds as Snow Peak's offices, museum, and open campfield. The building's defining feature is its exterior eaves clad in 20,000 pieces of firewood — a literal translation of camping culture into architecture. Inside, clay walls are coated with soil from the site itself, and Corten steel salvaged from local hardware factory offcuts runs throughout.

Museum is located in the basement, with exhibits set up as themed campsites. Short film on Snow Peak history with English subtitles. Runs twice daily at 11:00 and 14:00 (closed Wednesdays). No reservation needed.
Post-dinner campfire gathering at the takibi fire area outside the restaurant. Guests can sit around the fire with a drink from the bar. Available until 20:30 after dinner. Rain cover provided. This is the Snow Peak original Takibi experience in its truest form.
Guided experience tour exploring Tsubame-Sanjo's metalcraft heritage — including a tour of Tamagawado, a venerated Tsuikido copper ware maker, led by senior staff.
