Chicago Magnificent Mile
French luxury meets Chicago architectural ambition. Think clean lines, marble, polished African wood, dramatic mirrors in the lobby, and cocktail culture at Le Bar — with midwestern service warmth underneath it all.

Why It Matters
Jean-Paul Viguier's wedge-shaped tower is architecturally significant in a city famous for its architecture. The building was purpose-designed for Sofitel, giving it a coherence most city hotels never achieve. The Presidential Suite at 1,253 sq ft on the 32nd floor offers panoramic Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan views.
A 32-floor prism of glass that French architect Jean-Paul Viguier designed from scratch, the Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile is one of the few Chicago hotels where the building is the actual story. The exterior — a dramatic white wedge-shape that reads like a ship's prow cutting across the Gold Coast streetscape — was purpose-built for Sofitel, not adapted from an existing structure. Inside, designer Pierre-Yves Rochon layers warm beechwood walls, marble bathrooms, and neutral palettes into rooms that feel genuinely composed. No pool, and in-room spa services are handled by an outside provider, so this is more of a design-led city hotel than a resort.
