Soho Grand Hotel
Industrial-chic with a rock and roll heart. Gilded Age meets downtown loft. Warm and approachable despite the hipness — celebrities, European designers, and musicians all coexist comfortably.
Club Room cover charge ($25 Wed/Thu, $35 Fri/Sat) is waived for hotel guests — worth knowing before you go out
Why It Matters
First big hotel in SoHo, opened 1996. Designed by Cooper Hewitt Award-winner Bill Sofield. Famous for its cast-iron aesthetic, iconic bottle-glass staircase, and a nightlife program that still draws the downtown crowd three decades in. Radically pet-friendly — no fees, no size limits, private dog park on premises.
The hotel that put SoHo on the map when it opened in 1996 as Manhattan's first luxury downtown boutique property. The design, by Bill Sofield (of Tom Ford and Gucci retail fame), is a love letter to industrial SoHo: bottle-glass staircases, cast iron columns, molded concrete walls, and terrazzo floors with nickel strips. Rooms are newly renovated, layering mid-century and late-1970s references over genuinely comfortable beds. And by night, it turns into one of downtown's better party spots, with DJs spinning vinyl at the Grand Bar and live music at the Club Room.
