Somiatruites
Industrial-chic boutique. Stone walls, exposed brick, leather ceiling installations nodding to the building's tannery past, local woods (oak, pine, beech, walnut, chestnut) throughout. Quiet and design-forward, not flashy.
Book dinner at the restaurant the same night you check in — it's closed Sunday and Monday evenings, so plan around it.
Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally coherent small hotels in Catalonia. The restaurant holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand and Green Star; chef David Andrés was named best young chef in Spain and Portugal three consecutive times and appeared on Forbes 30 Under 30 (2017). The hotel is literally part of the same sustainability loop as the kitchen — produce from the rooftop goes straight to your plate.
Somiatruites — Catalan for 'dreamers' — sits above its own Michelin-recognised restaurant in a converted 19th-century tanning factory in Igualada's Rec neighbourhood. Architect Xavier Andrés and chef David Andrés (brothers) designed every inch of it: the 7 rooms use retractable wall-beds and bespoke sunken baths, while a 400m² rooftop vegetable garden feeds the kitchen below and insulates the building at the same time. It earned a Michelin Green Star in 2020 for sustainability — the chickens on the restaurant roof are not a quirk, they're part of the system.
