Why It Matters
Comporta has become one of the most sought-after coastal destinations in Europe, and Spatia was one of the first to define its understated-luxury template. The resort has grown significantly since 2020, adding 18 Cabanas with thatched roofs and outdoor showers, and a new adults-only Clube Colmo area with a second large heated pool. Executive Chef Afonso Carvalho leads the ŌRA restaurant, one of the more serious dining rooms in the region.
Spatia — pronounced 'Spay-sha,' Latin for space — is exactly what it promises. This five-star boutique resort sits on 170 hectares of Alentejo pinewoods, rice fields, and sandy tracks about 15 km from the nearest beach. The architecture keeps things low and clean: white walls, high beamed ceilings, full-length glass doors that dissolve the line between inside and out. No grand lobby, no formality. Just very good service and a lot of room to breathe.

18 adults-only cabanas added to the resort more recently, forming the new Clube Colmo zone. The architectural signature is a thatched roof (inspired by local tradition) paired with solid oak finishings and floor-to-ceiling windows that slide open to a private south-facing terrace with hammock and lounger. The bathroom opens directly onto an outdoor shower — a little theatre moment every morning. Toiletries are by Oliofora, made specifically for Spatia. Access to the adults-only Clube Colmo and its vast heated pool.

Club Room
The original 20 guestrooms are the most classic option — high beamed wooden ceilings, white walls, private terrace or garden, and views through the pines. The mood is rustic-meets-refined: wicker and wood furniture, patterned Portuguese blankets, a Nespresso machine, and a rain shower bathroom stocked with Maison Codage Paris toiletries. 9 rooms with king-size bed, one with twin beds. Part of the family-friendly zone with access to the shared heated pool.

Multiple Kings/QueensThe Suite
The newest addition in the Club area. A 70 sqm space with a separate sleeping room and lounge area that can accommodate a sofa bed and baby cot. Holiday-boho in feel, with a sunny private patio, hammock, and outdoor shower. Big bay windows look out over olive tree gardens. Good pick if you want the Club Rooms zone but need more space — the open-plan setup and outdoor shower feel more like a villa than a hotel room.

The 200 sqm+ floor plan includes a fully equipped kitchen, open-plan living and dining area, and an expansive wraparound deck with private pool. Interiors use high beamed ceilings, large windows, wicker rugs, local ceramics, and patterned blankets — the Comporta vernacular brought into a contemporary frame.
