Book the PRIVATE SPA on the 7th floor well in advance — it's a separate bookable space with a KLAFS sauna, bathtub with air jets and lake views, and it fills up.
Why It Matters
The building itself is the story: a heritage-protected Nazi-era grain silo repurposed into a hotel, with a conversion so thorough that steel was inserted as a house-within-a-house to replace the demolished interior silo cells. It's also the first climate-positive hotel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and reachable by boat from Hamburg or Berlin via the Elde-Störkanal.
A listed 1939 grain warehouse converted into a 4-star superior hotel — eight storeys of red brick with a steep pointed roof, sitting right on the edge of the Ziegelsee. Family-run since opening in 1998, it's one of Schwerin's strongest addresses and pulls off the rare trick of being genuinely sustainable without feeling preachy about it. The hotel has been carbon-positive since 2014 (the first in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), meaning it offsets more CO₂ than it produces. No pool, no air conditioning, no minibar — but you do get a proper gourmet breakfast, lakeside views, a Private SPA on the 7th floor, and sunsets that guests keep coming back for.

The hotel sits on the Hamburg–Rügen long-distance cycle route. Hire e-bikes or touring bikes directly from the hotel. Lockable bicycle shed on site. ADFC guided cycle tours available on Saturdays from May to September.
Regular boat service from the hotel's private jetty to Schwerin Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2024. The hotel is also connected to the waterway network via Lake Schwerin and the Elde-Störkanal, meaning guests can arrive or depart by boat from Hamburg or Berlin.
