Why It Matters
Italy's original grand hotel on the Riviera, with a 400-year monastic history and a guest book that reads like a 20th-century Who's Who. The 2025 renovation added the first permanent Dior Spa in Italy and a new private villa, Villa Beatrice. The pool, suspended above the bay, is one of the most photographed in Europe.
A former 16th-century Benedictine monastery turned Italian Riviera landmark, Splendido has been the go-to address for serious glamour since the 1950s. Baronessa Suite
The crown jewel of Splendido, named after Baronessa Von Mumm who saved Portofino from wartime destruction in 1945. Curated like the drawing room of a well-traveled Italian aristocrat — antiques, curios, and objects from local estate sales. Features a private-entrance garden with direct pool access and a vast terrace with views over the Gulf of Portofino. Guests are exclusively invited on a 1-hour village tour following in the Baronessa's footsteps, ending with cocktails at DaV Mare on the Piazzetta.

The entry-level rooms at Splendido are compact — from 20m2 — but all feature marble bathrooms, air conditioning, and the signature Martin Brudnizki interiors with light pastels, midollino weave, and Albissola ceramics. King or twin configuration. Some look out to the garden, others have sea-facing balconies; the latter are worth requesting specifically.

Flora Suite

At 35m2 and up, the Junior Suites offer noticeably more breathing room than the doubles. Marble bathrooms, king or twin beds, and the same careful Brudnizki treatment throughout. Many have terraces or balconies — the step-up here is well worth it.

La Dolce Vita Suite
The most theatrical room in the house. Captures the carefree spirit of 1950s Riviera life with decorative pastel details, marble flooring, and panoramic bay views. The expansive dining area is set up for private dinners. A separate TV room doubles as an extra bedroom. Outside, there's a generous terrace with a dining area, sunbeds, and an outdoor shower.
