Why It Matters

Featured in The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and Hello Magazine. Winner of the Beautiful South Awards Gold 2025–26. Also a Mr & Mrs Smith hotel. It is one of the most praised small hotels in the New Forest for food quality and atmosphere — not a spa retreat, but a place where eating and drinking well is the whole point.

Stanwell House is a 27-room boutique hotel in two conjoined Georgian townhouses right on Lymington High Street — a stone's throw from the quay where ferries depart for the Isle of Wight. Following a full refurbishment in 2022, the interiors lean into bold Colefax and Fowler wallpaper (Beauchamp by Manuel Canovas), colourful upholstery and a quietly confident personality. The food programme is the real draw: Samphire restaurant has earned a Guardian review and regular press coverage, and the all-day menu is available throughout the hotel.
