Stella d'Italia
Maximalist, art-forward, Italian cultural immersion. Every room is different — like staying in an eccentric Florentine collector's private palazzo rather than a hotel.
The front door is deliberately easy to miss — look for the small marble signage on Via de' Tornabuoni, between Prada and Balenciaga. Walk past it once; everyone does.
Why It Matters
Michelin One Key awarded. One of four Florentine properties by Perduca and Betty Soldi, and arguably the most ambitious: a fully curated 'Italianità' project where flea-market finds, original frescoes, and Pop Art coexist. The breakfast salone with wraparound 1700s frescoes and hand-crafted marble tables is unlike anything else in Florence at this price point.
Stella d'Italia occupies the top three floors of the Palazzo del Circolo dell'Unione — a 16th-century building on Via de' Tornabuoni designed by Giorgio Vasari — with 24 rooms that each read like a chapter in a very good Italian novel. Owners Matteo Perduca and calligrapher Betty Soldi have stacked the place with over 500 original artworks, vintage film posters sourced at auction, William Morris wallpaper, handles salvaged from old Florentine cinemas, and freestanding bathtubs parked right next to beds. But the location is the real jaw-dropper: Prada and Balenciaga are literally your neighbours, the Uffizi is a 5-minute walk, and Palazzo Strozzi is right next door.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
With over 500 original paintings across the property — landscapes, still lifes, marine scenes, cartographic art — plus antiques, vintage cinema posters, and Betty Soldi's own calligraphy work, wandering the corridors feels like a private gallery visit. No guide needed; the walls speak for themselves.
No spa on-site, but the concierge can arrange in-room massages on request.
The property hosts occasional live performances, cooking classes, and temporary art exhibitions.
The furnished loggia terrace on the top floor sits above the Florentine rooftops with views toward Tuscan hillsides. Seating is on deep cherry velvet armchairs and original wooden folding seats salvaged from the Odeon Cinema. Ideal for a sunset aperitivo or a mid-afternoon coffee between museum visits.
