Stoneridge Estate
Family-built vineyard château — rustic luxury with genuine soul. Think reclaimed church timber, Otago schist stone, antique iron fittings, and Italian linens. Not a corporate hotel product; every corner tells a story about the Gore family who built it.
The daily cheeseboard and glass of estate Rosé (5–6:30pm) is complimentary for all guests — don't miss it
Why It Matters
Holds a Michelin 1 Key (2025) and is listed on Tablet Hotels. The estate was started in 1981 when founder Da'Vella Gore rescued materials from a North Island church demolition on a whim. The wines — Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Rosé — are grown on-site and produced by Jen Parr, voted Winemaker of the Year 2020 by Gourmet Traveller. The Trust the Chef five-course dinners are private, pre-booked, and change weekly.
Built from reclaimed materials salvaged from demolished churches, historic stone buildings, and NZ heritage sites over four decades of family craftsmanship, Stoneridge Estate sits on 12 acres of vineyard along the shores of Lake Hayes, 15 minutes from Queenstown. Stone walls, arched windows, hand-forged iron, and soaring native timber beams give the property its château-like atmosphere — but this is unmistakably New Zealand. Three distinct accommodation options (The Lodge, The Cottage, and The Retreat) spread across the hillside, all looking out over the vines, Lake Hayes, and the Southern Alps beyond.
