Storfjord Hotel
Rustic-luxe Nordic lodge. Antiques, tweed throws, open fireplaces, and a library where the standing instruction is to slow down. Not a polished five-star spa tower — a proper remote hideaway with serious food.
The Boathouse seats only 12 people around a long table — book well ahead, especially in summer
Why It Matters
Norway's first Two Michelin Key hotel (awarded October 2025). A Relais & Châteaux member. Runs three distinct dining concepts including a fjordside boathouse with 12 seats and open-fire cooking. Family-owned. The building technique — lafta timber framing — is a living piece of Norwegian craft tradition.
A family-owned log-built retreat on a wooded hillside above the Storfjord, about 40 minutes from Ålesund. Thirty rooms across four handcrafted timber buildings, constructed using the traditional Norwegian 'lafta' technique of cross-stacking whole timbers. Norway's first hotel to receive Two Michelin Keys, and a Relais & Châteaux member since 2024. The sitting rooms feel genuinely lived-in — books, puzzles, sheepskins, a crackling fire — and the kitchen works closely with local farmers and foragers to put actual Sunnmøre flavours on the plate.
