Comporta
Barefoot luxury meets ecological consciousness. Think effortless cool, not fussy. Natural materials everywhere — polished concrete, linen, timber — and a real commitment to sustainability with a biological pool, organic garden supplying the kitchens, solar panels, and EV charging. The clientele is European A-list; the dress code is sandals.
Book the Food Circle experience well in advance — it seats only 6-12 and fills up fast. It's widely considered the resort's single best experience.
Why It Matters
Portugal's most-talked-about resort destination. Comporta was essentially unknown until Sublime opened here, and the property was named the area's headline act by The Evening Standard. The Bio-Pool Suites are a standout: nine thatched cabanas perched over one of Europe's largest freshwater biological pools treated entirely with aquatic plants — no chemicals. The resort also now hosts Beefbar, a Monaco-born concept that has locations in Mykonos and Hong Kong, making its first Portuguese appearance here.
Sublime Comporta started as a family holiday house that became Comporta's first hotel when the owners realized the area was pulling serious high-end attention — and nothing was there to accommodate it. That was 2014. Today it's a sprawling 68-hectare resort split across two wings: Terracotta (the warm, original side) and Sand (newer, livelier). Rooms and villas are scattered through umbrella pines and cork trees, designed so you almost never see another guest. Architecture pulls directly from local cabana tradition — thatched roofs, rough-hewn materials, cement floors, and lots of wood — while the interiors feel genuinely contemporary. An hour from Lisbon's airport, but worlds away from it.
