The Tree Room is only open Wednesday–Saturday for dinner and doesn't allow children under 12. Book weeks ahead — it fills fast.

Why It Matters

Founded by Robert Redford, who literally built the Tree Room around a living tree he refused to cut down. Now holds a Michelin Key Award (2025), a Forbes 4-Star Rating, and the Spa landed on Vogue's Global Top 100 Spa List. Also home to a 20-year partnership with Nashville's Bluebird Cafe for an intimate songwriter concert series.

Yes, that Sundance — Robert Redford's original eco-resort at the foot of Mt. Timpanogos, about an hour from Salt Lake City. This is not a typical ski resort. It's part artists' community, part conservation project, and part Michelin Key–awarded lodging, and somehow all three coexist without any of them feeling like an afterthought. Seventy percent of the land is permanently preserved wilderness, the ski mountain is deliberately small (25 trails), and the whole place carries the hand-crafted, unhurried quality Redford famously insisted upon.

How you'll actually spend your days.

Outdoor Activity

Arts & Culture
Art Studio & Gallery

Pottery, painting, photography, and other art classes in a studio set against the mountain backdrop. This is central to Sundance's identity as an artists' community. Guests can take classes and take their own work home. The gallery showcases work from resort artists.

Entertainment
Bluebird Cafe Concert Series

A 20+ year collaboration with Nashville's iconic Bluebird Cafe. Singer-songwriters perform in an intimate in-the-round format at the resort's outdoor amphitheater. Most shows sell out; lodging guests get priority access to otherwise-unavailable bench seats.

Live Music at the Owl Bar

Regular live music on the Owl Bar's intimate stage. Low-key, approachable, with the saloon character of the bar setting the mood.

Outdoor Adventure
Fly Fishing

The Provo River runs through the canyon and is one of Utah's premier blue-ribbon trout fisheries. Guided sessions available through the resort. A true draw for serious anglers.

HikingComplimentary

Trails wind through the preserved canyon wilderness, including routes to waterfall destinations. Ranger-led and self-guided options available. Much of the resort's 4,000+ acres of preserved land is accessible on foot.

Horseback Riding

Trail rides through the mountain landscape. Seasonal (summer/fall). A genuine Western experience, not a gimmick — the trails take you into genuine backcountry terrain.

Mountain Biking

Trails designed for all levels across the mountain terrain. Rentals available through the resort's Activity Center.

ZipTour

A multi-line zip course over the mountain terrain. One of the longer zip tour experiences in Utah — good for a dose of adrenaline without committing to a full adventure day.

Special Experience
Full Moon Lift Rides

Seasonal evening lift rides timed to the full moon. One of the more unusual and memorable resort experiences — riding a chairlift in the dark with moonlight on the mountain.

Winter Sport
Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing

Groomed Nordic trails through pine forest. Snowshoe rentals available. A quieter alternative to the downhill slopes and great for those who want to move at their own pace.

Skiing & Snowboarding

Sundance's ski mountain has 25 trails and runs from beginner to expert. Small by Utah resort standards, but that's the point — no lift lines, no crowds. Utah's legendary light powder applies here too. Snowsports school available for all levels.

Snowsports School

Ski and snowboard lessons for all ages and abilities. Private and group lessons available. Given the uncrowded mountain, lesson quality here tends to be higher than at bigger Utah resorts.

Uphill Skiing

Skinning and uphill skiing permitted on a designated trail. Utah locals love this for early morning pre-lift laps.

Sightseeing
Scenic Lift Rides

Summer and fall chairlift rides up the mountain for views over the canyon and Mt. Timpanogos. No skiing required. A good option for guests who want the elevation without the exertion.
