Sunrise Suites is a 15-room boutique hotel sitting directly across from To-ji Temple's five-story pagoda in Kyoto's quieter Minami Ward. The rooms are crisp and minimalist — Western-style layouts dressed in traditional Japanese craft, from hand-printed Kyo-Karakami paper headboards to shoji-style latticework. Think more serviced apartment than hotel: every room has a kitchenette, washer/dryer, and a deep soaking tub. The only meal served is a bento-style breakfast delivered to your door.

The largest room at 32 sqm, with a queen bed and a semi-double extra bed — sleeps three. Same traditional Japanese craft design throughout. Families get views of the pagoda from some of these rooms. Full kitchenette and washer/dryer make longer stays practical. No rollaway or crib by default; crib must be requested 5 days ahead and is subject to availability.
