Swinton Estate
Grand English country house meets active Yorkshire estate. Antique furnishings and ornate ceilings in the castle; a sleek, contemporary spa a short walk away. The whole operation is surprisingly relaxed — they actively want dogs in the billiard room and kids running through the parkland.
Hotel guests get complimentary spa access from check-in to checkout — use it every morning before breakfast, not just for a special session
Why It Matters
Featured on BBC's Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby. The Chef's Table by Josh Barnes holds 3 AA Rosettes. Hotel guests get complimentary access to the full Swinton Country Club spa — an 18m pool, outdoor natural swimming pool, thermal suite, and gym — from check-in to checkout. The estate's four-acre walled kitchen garden supplies produce directly to all on-site restaurants.
Swinton Park Hotel is a Grade II* listed 18th-century castle at the heart of one of England's largest privately owned estates — a staggering 20,000 acres of North Yorkshire countryside spanning the Nidderdale National Landscape. The castle itself sits within 200 acres of parkland, but the bigger draw is the full estate ecosystem: fine dining, a world-class spa, a cookery school, off-grid glamping, and enough outdoor activities to fill a week. Owned by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s and opened as a hotel in 2001, it genuinely feels more like someone's lavish ancestral home than a hotel.
