Why It Matters
The only hotel in the Sacred Valley with a private train station for direct access to Machu Picchu, featuring dining and observation cars. Also holds LEED New Construction certification and Biosphere Sustainable certification. Ranked among Travel + Leisure's World's Best Hotels (2021) and TripAdvisor's Best of the Best for South America.
Tambo del Inka sits along the Vilcanota River in the heart of the Sacred Valley, about an hour from Cusco. The property takes its name from the ancient Incan tambo — rest stops along the royal road — and leans into that heritage without feeling theme-park about it. Andean fabrics, earth-toned wood, and stepped-terrace motifs show up throughout, but the architecture is boldly modern. Here's the thing that sets it apart from every other luxury hotel in the valley: it has its own private train station, with 1920s-style carriages offering dining and observation cars for the ride to Machu Picchu. You won't find that anywhere else.

Tambo del Inka is the only hotel in the Sacred Valley with its own on-property train station. Luxurious 1920s-style carriages depart for Aguas Calientes (the town at the base of Machu Picchu) with two daily services. The train includes a Dining Car and a panoramic Observation Bar Car where an Andean infusion is served before departure. This is the resort's most distinctive feature — no other hotel in the valley offers it.
