Taskonaklar Hotel, Cappadocia
Slow-travel luxury with genuine family warmth. Hand-cut Saritaş stone walls, reclaimed antiques, and actual cave rooms carved into volcanic rock — but with Molton Brown toiletries and Nespresso machines in the top suites. The motto is 'luxury with a touch of family,' and guests consistently note that the staff feels like hosts rather than employees.
Book a room with a terrace for the balloon viewing — balloons float past at sunrise and the views are the real reason to stay here.
Why It Matters
Only 25 rooms, each architecturally distinct. A Michelin Guide–recognized restaurant on-site. An active artist residency program. No pool — the tradeoff is private outdoor heated jacuzzis on terrace suites with uninterrupted valley views, and mornings spent watching hot air balloons drift past your window.
Taskonaklar started in 2003 when the founder's mother fell in love with a weathered old house in Uçhisar and decided she wanted to live there. What began as a private family retreat grew, room by hand-carved stone, into a 25-room luxury boutique hotel. Sitting right at the highest point of Uçhisar — the highest village in Cappadocia — the property commands panoramic views of Pigeon Valley and the fairy chimneys below. The Moniq Restaurant & Cocktail Bar earned a place in the Michelin Guide 2026, and an on-site artist residency program (A.R.C.) means you might be sleeping next to a working creative studio.
