Why It Matters
One of the most authentic agriturismo experiences in Sicily — built in 1778, run by the same family's descendants, and the first Sicilian property in the 'Il Parco Più Bello' national network of parks. The on-site supper club L'OrtodiSilvia is the culinary centrepiece: no printed menu, everything decided that morning based on what the farm yields.
Tenuta Cammarana is a five-room adults-only farmhouse built in 1778 on the Ibleo plateau, halfway between Ragusa and the sea at Punta Secca. The stone walls were laid by the same craftsmen who built the Sortino Trono Palace — a UNESCO World Heritage site in Ragusa Ibla — and the place has barely changed since. Owned and run by architect Silvia La Padula and sculptor Giuseppe Pulvirenti, it's a working agricultural estate producing Ragusano DOP cheese, extra-virgin olive oil from ancient trees, carob honey, and ancient Sicilian Russello wheat flour. Breakfast, supper (reservation only), the pool, the spa — everything here revolves around what the land actually produces.

In the oldest part of the house, reached by a quiet passage through the library. Massive stone buttresses frame the room and a large stone vault overhead opens into a full-height glass wall looking onto the orange courtyard. Natural light reflects through to a window facing the secret garden. The room takes its name from a Karabagh carpet decorated with lily-of-the-valley and forget-me-nots. One of the most dramatic spaces in the house.

The largest room, set into the estate's perimeter wall inside the orange courtyard. Six windows of different sizes — a lesson in traditional Sicilian ventilation architecture — ensure cross-breeze at every hour. Surrounded by a collection of antique Sicilian terracotta pots growing chilli peppers, tomatoes, and aubergines. The original 'pietra pece' baroque stone floor is intact — the same volcanic black stone used in the neo-baroque palaces of Val di Noto. Classified on the booking form as the Suite tier.

Bright and quiet, isolated in the middle of the courtyard and wrapped by a white banksia rose. This was originally the house of the estate's farmer, Massa'Vincenzo, who tended the orchard and animals. Simple and romantic — an arched ceiling and sloping terracotta roof tiles in the colour of Gela clay. Catches red evening sun and first morning light.

The larger double category, with more generous floor area and some featuring domed sandstone ceilings. Some can accommodate a third bed on request. All rooms open to garden or terrace and share the same material palette — limestone, stone, wood, antique textiles.

One of the smaller double rooms converted from original farm outbuildings — former stables, carriage stores, or the like. Each room opens directly to a shaded section of garden or terrace. Furnished with antique family pieces and simple Sicilian wooden furniture. Small but spotless bathrooms with Malin+Goetz toiletries. No TV in any room.

On-request cooking classes with owner-architect-chef Silvia La Padula, focused on traditional Sicilian and Ragusa aristocratic family recipes.
Wine tastings are available at the property, highlighting Sicilian regional varieties.
The masseria farm next door produces ricotta and Ragusano DOP daily from Modicana cows. Guests can visit and watch the process. The estate also produces olive oil, carob honey, and ancient grain flour — all available to taste and purchase from the farm shop.
A golf resort with two 18-hole courses and a driving range is located approximately 8km from the estate.
Horses can be hired from the neighbouring farm. Guests can ride to the coast along countryside trails.
The estate sits on the Ibleo plateau, ideal cycling country. Bikes can be arranged for exploring the trails and countryside between Ragusa and the coast.
A large, well-stocked library open to all guests — an excellent rainy-day resource and a quiet retreat between outings.
A garden featuring bronze sculptures by owner Giuseppe Pulvirenti, an internationally exhibited sculptor. The garden is part of the estate grounds.
Self-guided and guided walks across the Ibleo plateau through botanical trails, wild herb meadows, and dry-stone wall landscapes. The River Irminio and Pino d'Aleppo nature reserves are close by.
