Insider Tip

Ask the chef to cook whatever fish you catch that day — it's a real thing here, not just marketing copy.

Why It Matters

One of the very few resorts in Belize — and Central America — offering true overwater bungalows on a fully private island. The 30-guest cap means the staff nearly outnumber guests. It holds a Michelin Key designation and a PADI 5-Star dive operation on-site.

Thatch Caye is a true private-island all-inclusive — 15 rooms, max 30 guests at a time, and a barefoot-casual energy that leans more summer-camp-for-adults than stuffy resort. Built on its own caye off the coast of Dangriga, it sits right along the Belize Barrier Reef, which means world-class snorkeling and diving are practically off the back porch. Accommodations have been renovated using reclaimed island materials, meals are communal and farm-to-table, and WiFi is intentionally kept out of the rooms.

Oceanfront Cabana
Cabana

Oceanfront Cabana

Two Jr. Oceanfront Cabanas with excellent ocean views and straightforward island-style comfort. King bed, en-suite bath, lounge chairs on a private patio. Air conditioning is available, though the resort notes that opening the windows to let the Caribbean breeze in is the better move.

Overwater Bungalow

Built on stilts over the ocean alongside the Premier units, these five bungalows share a large communal deck with hammocks swaying in the sea breeze. They're described as a 'friendly close-knit group' — good for solo travelers or groups who don't mind being in proximity to neighbors. All the essentials: private bath, air conditioning, ocean views from bed.

Four elegant cabanas with spectacular ocean views, window seats, easy chairs, and dining tables — more space than the standard cabanas. Built using reclaimed island materials, they have a lived-in, warm feel without sacrificing comfort. Good for families or guests who want a bit more room to spread out.

Premier Overwater Bungalow

Five bungalows perched on stilts directly above the Caribbean Sea. Each has a private overwater deck with a hammock and 180-degree views of distant cayes and clear blue water. The thatched exterior looks rustic; the interior is clean and functional with an en-suite walk-in shower and air conditioning. No TV, no in-room WiFi — that's a feature, not a bug.
