The Admiral Hotel
French-colonial drama meets Southern hospitality. Art Deco bones with opulent modern interiors — marble floors, a grand spiral staircase, oval mezzanine balcony, and chandelier-lit public spaces. Think chic rather than stuffy.

Why It Matters
Downtown Mobile's only luxury boutique hotel and the anchor of the city's social scene. Underwent a $27 million renovation before reopening in 2015, then sold to Avocet Hospitality in 2022 for $21 million and rebranded as an independent property. The rooftop honeybee colony is a genuine talking point — its honey shows up in cocktails and on the cheese plate at Le Moyne's.
The Admiral is a 12-story Art Deco-rooted boutique hotel in downtown Mobile, completely reimagined in 2022 by Avocet Hospitality Group after a storied history that stretches back to 1940. The French-colonial aesthetic runs deep here — from the black-and-white tiled entry hall flanked by horse sculptures to the gold-accented Living Room bar and a steakhouse named after Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, the French explorer who founded Mobile. It's bold, a little theatrical, and the best hotel option in the city by a fair margin.

A packaged add-on offered through the hotel: two tickets to the Bienville Bites walking food tour of downtown Mobile, plus a $25 voucher to spend at The Living Room. Tours run Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Add $30 per person for the alcohol-inclusive version. A $140 deposit is required at booking.
Mobile is the birthplace of Mardi Gras in the United States, and the hotel is centrally located for the parades and festivities. The Admiral has a dedicated Mardi Gras page with packages during the January–February season. Note: valet at Le Moyne's is unavailable on select Mardi Gras peak dates.
Over 6,000 sq ft of event space including the Crystal Ballroom (with chandelier and dance floor), South Gallery (classroom-style), a Government Street balcony for outdoor receptions, and a private dining room at Le Moyne's. Full catering services available.
The hotel maintains a rooftop honeybee colony and herb garden. The honey produced here makes its way into cocktails (notably the Penicillin at Le Moyne's) and the Artisanal Cheese Plate. Noteworthy as a design-meets-culinary feature of the property.
