The Adolphus
Old-world Beaux Arts grandeur meets contemporary Texas cool. Think gilded Louis XVI chairs alongside a lobby barber doing straight-razor shaves. Formal enough for a power dinner, relaxed enough that cowboy boots won't raise an eyebrow.
Sushi by Scratch reservations drop on the first of each month at 12pm for the following month — set a reminder or you'll miss out
Why It Matters
Dallas's oldest surviving luxury hotel, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The French Room held an AAA Five Diamond Award for 25 consecutive years — the only restaurant in Texas to achieve that. Named one of Dallas's best in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards 2025.
Built in 1912 by Anheuser-Busch founder Adolphus Busch, this 21-story Beaux Arts landmark is one of Dallas's most storied addresses. The lobby alone earns its keep — Flemish tapestries, a Guggenheim-era Victorian Steinway, tiled floors, and walnut accents set a tone that's genuinely dramatic without trying too hard. Royals, presidents, and rock bands have all slept here. But the hotel punches hardest on dining: Sushi by Scratch's 17-course nigiri tasting on the 8th floor and afternoon tea in The French Room both draw locals who have never set foot in a guest room.
