The Barnett
Art Deco meets French Modernism. Color-saturated, music-obsessed, locally rooted. More 'neighborhood gathering place' than polished hotel.
Seaworthy's oyster happy hour runs daily 4–6pm — half off on shucker's select oysters. It's one of the better deals in the city.
Why It Matters
Formerly the Ace Hotel New Orleans — a beloved cultural anchor — the property reopened as The Barnett under JdV by Hyatt after a comprehensive renovation completed in late 2025. The building itself is a registered 1928 Art Deco landmark. Seaworthy is one of the city's most awarded oyster bars, and Brutto Americano brings a serious Italian-Southern kitchen from the team behind Costera and Osteria Lupo.
The Barnett is a 234-room boutique hotel occupying a 1928 Art Deco building — originally Barnett's Furniture Store — in New Orleans' Warehouse District. The nine-story façade was carefully restored, and the interior now runs with rich greens, radiant yellows, and deep reds drawn from the city's shotgun houses and street tile mosaics. High ceilings (a genuine perk of repurposed industrial space), sustainable cork floors, locally commissioned artwork, and over 200 custom-painted armoires give the rooms real character. Music is the organizing principle here: Good Measure hosts live acts, a restored Steinway anchors the lobby, and WWOZ radio plays from your nightstand. Five dining venues round out the picture, including Seaworthy in a genuine 1832 Creole cottage and Brutto Americano from a James Beard-adjacent local chef team.
