The Bold Type Hotel
Monochromatic minimalism inside a classical envelope. Dark wood custom furniture, marble and wooden floors, high ceilings, signature lighting. Each floor has its own color accent — green on the first, red on the second, blue on the third — which sounds potentially garish but lands with restraint.
Book the Garden Suite for the clawfoot bathtub and private garden-facing terrace — it's the most generous room at 54 m2 and sits quietly on the ground floor
Why It Matters
Greece's first five-star boutique hotel in Patras; a Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels selection; rooms designed with Bauhaus and Danish modernist references inside a perfectly preserved 19th-century neoclassical shell; restaurant helmed by chef Christos Spyropoulos (Nammos Mykonos, Meraki London) with a cocktail list curated by Manon Kapfer (Connaught Bar, London).
A 19th-century neoclassical mansion in Patras' historic Ano Polis district, reborn as a 5-star boutique hotel. Architect Empi Spathi stripped away the ornate and replaced it with sharp minimalism — Bauhaus and Danish modernist references running through 10 rooms spread over four color-coded floors. It opened in 2020 as Patras' first five-star hotel, and it genuinely earns that designation. The courtyard restaurant is where the city's design-savvy crowd comes to eat, and the rooftop view of the Castle, the Roman Odeon, and the Gulf of Patras is one of the better urban vistas in Greece.
