Brecon
Mid-century Alpine cool. Think curvaceous walnut wood, forest-green ceramics, Soho Home bar cabinets, and zero televisions. Intimate like a well-designed friend's mountain house, not a resort.
Room categories with two balconies — Waterfall Corner and the Loft rooms — are worth the upgrade for the dual aspect views over the Wildstrubel and Engstligenalp
Why It Matters
Holds a Michelin 1 Key. One of very few truly all-inclusive luxury properties in the Swiss Alps — rates cover all food, all drinks (soft and alcoholic), afternoon tea, and full spa access. Adults-only (18+). No pets.
The Brecon is a 22-room adults-only Alpine retreat that opened in July 2024 inside a timber building originally constructed in 1914 — the same place that was the glamorous Waldhaus of the 1950s and '60s. Today it runs a genuinely all-inclusive model: every meal (à la carte breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner), all drinks including wine and cocktails, and the spa are folded into your room rate. The design, by Amsterdam-based studio Nicemakers, leans into mid-century modernism with wood panelling, earthy textiles, and art from Amsterdam's Bisou gallery — warm and specific, not generic Swiss chalet.
