The Cambrian is a 72-room design hotel sitting square in the center of Adelboden village in the Bernese Oberland. Built on the site of the former Grand Hotel Regina and relaunched in 2010, it swapped mountain-kitsch for something sharper: rich oiled hardwoods, custom furniture by Dutch designers Johan Bouman and Jeroen Wand, and a terrace outdoor hot pool that appears to pour straight into the valley below. Rates include breakfast and spa access, which is a genuinely good deal given the quality of both.

A proper suite with fully separated bedroom and living room, plus an extra WC off the lounge. The bathroom steps up with both a bathtub and a walk-in shower. All have balconies with panoramic valley views.

All unique in their floor layouts. Fresh, contemporary, and light. South-facing rooms have exceptional panoramic Alpine views and most have a balcony. North-facing rooms are quieter and more affordable.

Ground-floor suite with two fully separated bedrooms — one king, one twin — and a cosy living area. Honest caveat: restricted view. But the space and interior quality make it one of the better family options in the Alps at this price point.
