Why It Matters
One of Jamaica's most celebrated boutique properties since 1993. Designed by Greer-Ann and Bertram Saulter. Part of Chris Blackwell's Island Outpost group alongside GoldenEye and Strawberry Hill. Has hosted Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoots and Caribbean film festivals. The Blackwell Rum Bar — a secret cave bar reached via coral staircase — is a genuine one-of-a-kind watering hole.
The Caves is a 12-cottage adults-only all-inclusive perched on the limestone cliffs of Negril's West End — part of Chris Blackwell's Island Outpost collection. There's no sandy beach here; instead you get coral staircases carved into volcanic rock, grottos lit by candlelight, and multiple cliff-jump platforms dropping up to 30 feet into clear Caribbean water. The cottages are compact and individually designed, with thatched roofs, batik fabrics, and hand-painted furniture — think bohemian eclecticism, not polished minimalism.

A fully self-contained 3-bedroom villa (with a double-occupancy annex) set across the street from the main resort on a private half-acre of landscaped gardens. Stone, wood, and thatched-roof construction. Includes a private outdoor pool, BBQ grill, two-car parking, and an automated entrance gate. Can be booked all-inclusive or non-all-inclusive. Butler service available.
MultipleOne Bedroom Blue Hole View Suite
Named after one of the property's most striking natural features. Pale blue bedroom with a plush king bed, a beautiful stained glass window, writing desk, and a unique bathroom. The real draw is the enclosed verandah with bamboo chairs that opens directly onto the Blue Hole — a natural cave opening right down to the sea. You can dive in from here.
KingOne Bedroom Garden View Cottage (Two Birds)
The most secluded and romantic entry point. Named 'Two Birds,' this queen-bed cottage sits among the trees with louvered windows providing views of the lush landscape rather than the ocean. Low-hanging wicker lighting and a love seat create that moody, tropical atmosphere. Garden surroundings make for excellent birdsong mornings.
QueenOne Bedroom Lower Ocean View Suite
Large studio-style rooms perfectly positioned to catch the light shifting from sunrise to sunset. Each has a lovely front verandah for star-gazing, with uninterrupted views of the limestone cliffs and the sea 40 feet below.
King or QueenOne Bedroom Ocean View Cottage (Stardust)
Located at the edge of the property for maximum privacy. Named 'Stardust,' this two-level cottage has a ground-floor kitchen and living area with an irresistible daybed opening onto a perfect patio. Upstairs is the bedroom with wicker accents and warm mellow vibes. Located next to The Sands bar — you may catch occasional music drifting over during cocktail hour.
Queen or KingOne Bedroom Partial Ocean View Cottage (One Drop)
One of the original cottages from the property's 1993 opening. Named 'One Drop,' it has bohemian roots balanced with luxurious interiors — queen bed, private outdoor shower, and a window settee ideal for reading or catching sunsets. Partial ocean views make this the most accessible entry into the cliffside experience.
QueenOne Bedroom Upper Ocean View Suite
Ten of the property's one-bedroom units fall into this category. Handcrafted wood furnishings, batik fabrics, and native artwork define the look — tropical elegance with a nod to bohemian chic. Both accessible and private, each is a personal oasis with authentic Jamaican character. Guests who've reviewed it call the views 'drop-dead.'
KingTwo Bedroom Ocean Front Cottage (Sun Dancer)
Named 'Sun Dancer' with a curved layout that follows its cliffside position. Large kitchen with plush built-in settees is great for entertaining. Downstairs bedroom has a queen, hand-carved furniture, and outdoor shower. The second-story master has a king, teardrop stained glass window, and an octagonal bathroom. The secret: a large upper deck terrace with uninterrupted coastal views stretching as far as the eye can see.
Queen + KingTwo Bedroom Ocean View Cottage (Moon Shadow)
Originally built for Island Outpost founder Chris Blackwell. The main floor has a spacious kitchen with a wraparound bar and a breakfast booth. Lower bedroom has a queen and outdoor shower; upper bedroom has a king with moon-and-star carved filigree and a balcony hanging right over the sea. Small paintings by local artists fill the walls.

Multiple jump platforms carved into the limestone cliffs at different heights, the highest reaching 30 feet. A certified water sports director and cliff diving expert is on-hand to guide guests safely. One of the signature experiences of the property — guests routinely describe it as the highlight of their stay.
Led by the water sports director, guests snorkel around and through the natural cave system. A tropical reef comes right up to the cliff edge. Occasional visits from dolphins have been reported. All gear provided.
