The Coachman Hotel
Retro-modern mountain basecamp. Think plywood accents, warm lighting, heated toilet seats, and a lobby that feels more like a cool friend's living room than a hotel. Daily happy hour (3–6 PM craft beer on tap), nightly fire pit s'mores at 7 PM, and complimentary cruiser bikes round out the communal vibe.

Why It Matters
Listed by Vogue as one of the 9 most Instagrammable hotels in the US; featured in Architectural Digest, Travel + Leisure, Sunset, and Condé Nast. Managed by Sage Hospitality Group. One of the few independently spirited boutique options in South Lake Tahoe that doesn't feel like a casino overflow hotel.
Two mid-century motels, thoroughly gutted and reimagined into one of South Lake Tahoe's best-positioned stays. The Coachman pulls off the boutique-chic-meets-camp-rustic thing without trying too hard — custom hand-crafted furniture, Lather bath products, Italian Bellino linens, and Apple TV in every room. The property straddles Pine Boulevard, so some sections are across the street from each other, but the payoff is a five-minute walk to Heavenly Village and the gondola, and five minutes in the other direction to Lakeside Beach.
