The Comodo Bad Gastein
Mid-century Alpine. 1960s–70s modernist palette — punchy colors, terrazzo, oak and pine — meets mountain wellness. Art-forward (the hotel doubles as a gallery) with a design-conscious, urban-leaning clientele.

Why It Matters
One of the flagship hotels of Bad Gastein's ongoing revival. A member of Design Hotels and Marriott Bonvoy, it sits in a Belle Époque alpine village increasingly touted as Central Europe's next creative hotspot. The spa uses actual Gastein thermal water — not just a marketing line — and the restaurant collaborates with Berlin-based chef Max Jensen on a genuine farm-to-table menu.
A former clinic building reborn as a 70-room mid-century design hotel, the cōmodo opened in early 2023 after a full 2022 renovation. Think bold wine and bottle-green tones, original terrazzo floors, oak parquet with underfloor heating, and actual vintage furniture — not the reproduction kind. Bad Gastein itself sits at 1,000 meters in the Austrian Alps, once a playground for European royalty, now quietly pulling a creative crowd back in.
