The Constance
Historic Victorian boutique inn with a design-forward, slightly playful rebrand. Warm common areas, eclectic room decor, and a strong sense of 'home base' energy. No spa, no pool, no restaurant on-site — but you can walk to Lenox's main drag in minutes.
Book the Constance Suite for the turret — the circular living room overlooking Lenox is genuinely worth the upgrade
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide selected, Tablet Hotels listed, and formerly part of The Lenox Collection — this property punches above its price point. The turret suite (Constance Suite) is genuinely special. Location is hard to beat: 3 minutes to Tanglewood, walkable to Lenox's shops and dining.
This Victorian inn has been through a few lives — opened in 1825 as a tavern, spent decades as The Rookwood Inn, became The Constance under The Lenox Collection, and most recently rebranded as Hideaway Inn Lenox under the new Hideaway Inns ownership. The bones are the same: a three-floor historic building with a wraparound porch, a grand piano lounge, and 24 individually designed rooms one block from downtown Lenox. The new operators have leaned into a design-forward, contactless ethos — think vinyl records in the living room, arcade games in The Commons, and a kids' playroom called The Hideout — while the Victorian architecture does most of the atmospheric heavy lifting.

An outdoor fire pit for evening gatherings. Described as the spot 'where conversations crackle and time slows down.'
The signature feature of the building. Perfect for morning coffee, afternoon tea, or evening wine. BYOB-friendly — guests report the inn provides glasses and ice. Best in summer and early fall.
The historic lounge featuring a grand piano, impressive fireplace, plush leather seating, and sun-warmed nooks. A holdover from the Constance/Rookwood era.
A hangout space with classic arcade games, bookshelves, and lounge seating. The new Hideaway Inns brand has leaned hard into this as a social gathering point for guests.
A sun-filled common room with record players, a vinyl collection, board games, and lounge seating. Guests have noted this as a highlight of the new Hideaway Inns renovation.
Kennedy Park's Cliffwood Street Trailhead is close by, with multiple trails for all skill levels through forests and rolling hills. The concierge can suggest routes.
25 minutes from the hotel. One of the Berkshires' best ski mountains with a mix of beginner-friendly trails, steeper runs, and reliable snowmaking. A strong reason to visit in winter.
Three minutes by car. The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra — the main reason many guests visit the Berkshires in July and August. Lawn seats are a Berkshires rite of passage. Tickets must be purchased separately.
A dedicated playroom for kids, which freed up the parents in recent reviews. A clear addition from the Hideaway Inns rebrand.
Dedicated coworking tables with plenty of outlets for guests who need to work during their stay.
