Why It Matters
Every single room was designed by Marcel Wanders, including four genuinely theatrical 'Experience Suites' — a Stargazer room with a digital telescope and Swarovski ceiling, a Game Suite with a putting green terrace, a Spa Suite with a private sauna, and the Naughty Suite with a mirrored ceiling and round bed. The hotel doubles as a curated art gallery in collaboration with 2B Art Gallery, with rotating exhibitions throughout the property.
The Donna Portals is a 5-star adults-only boutique hotel on the beach of Cala Bendinat in Portals Nous, southwest Mallorca. Dutch designer Marcel Wanders — the man behind Moooi and the Mondrian hotels — conceived all 64 rooms and the public spaces from scratch, and the results are genuinely unlike most hotels you'll ever sleep in: a glowing illuminated iris that divides bedroom from bathroom in the corner suites, white tree-of-life sculptures in the cave-like spa, and themed experience suites ranging from a Stargazer room with a Swarovski crystal ceiling to a Naughty Suite with a mirrored ceiling and a pole. Formerly the Iberostar Grand Portals Nous, it was reimagined in 2017 and now operates as an independent adults-focused property with a serious art gallery arm run in partnership with 2B Art Gallery.
