The Edwardian Manchester
Heritage landmark with a sharp contemporary interior. Grown-up and confident — high atrium, clubby bar with books everywhere, industrial-chic spa. Not flashy, just very well done.
Hotel guests get complimentary pool/spa facility access — but you must pre-book a one-hour slot through the hotel. Don't assume you can just walk in.
Why It Matters
The Free Trade Hall is one of Manchester's most historically loaded buildings. The hotel itself has won Leading Hotel of the Year (2019) and Peter Street Kitchen holds TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Best of the Best 2025 distinction (fewer than 1% of restaurants worldwide). Add a full-floor spa with a 12-metre pool and 20 meeting spaces for up to 500 guests, and it's genuinely hard to top for the city.
The Edwardian Manchester lives inside the Grade II*-listed Free Trade Hall — a building that's seen the Peterloo Massacre, Winston Churchill rally crowds, and Bob Dylan go electric to an outraged audience. The history is baked into the walls, but the interior is entirely modern: sleek rooms with Vispring mattresses, a proper spa taking up an entire basement floor, and Peter Street Kitchen serving some of the best Japanese-Mexican small plates in the North. It's a genuinely good hotel in a building that has no business being this good a hotel.
