The Fish Hotel
Laid-back rural luxury. Think Scandi-rustic rather than grand manor — chunky knit throws over king beds, communal fireplaces in the bar, and staff who lend you wellies. Unpretentious but genuinely high quality.
Book Boaty McBoatface well in advance — it's the only hut with its own private lake and island, and it sells out fast
Why It Matters
One of the very few UK country hotels to offer such a genuine range of accommodation formats — from standard hotel rooms to off-grid shepherd's huts and woodland treehouses on the same estate. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and certified B Corporation.
The Fish Hotel defies easy categorisation. Set high on the hillside of the 500-acre Farncombe Estate above the village of Broadway, it sprawls across a cluster of buildings — The Coach House, The Stables, The Outhouse — plus a set of hand-crafted shepherd's huts with private hot tubs and three treehouses accessed, in some cases, via rope bridges. The name comes from a Cotswolds legend about a local monastery that stored fish in cool caves under the hillside. Inside, the aesthetic is Scandi-meets-country: soothing neutrals, wood-burning stoves, and zero country-house stuffiness.
