Why It Matters
One of Istanbul's most architecturally significant hotel conversions: the Baltazzi Han dates to 1836, sits on the original Ottoman banking street, and contains a working 1720s hammam (the Çeşme Hamamı) that has won the World Luxury SPA Award four consecutive years (2022–2025). It's also a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide.
A 1836 Ottoman bank building reborn as a five-star boutique hotel on Bankalar Caddesi — once the financial spine of the Ottoman Empire. The building, known as Baltazzi Han, was overhauled by Istanbul design studio Autoban in 2017 and opened as a hotel in 2018. Original arched brick vaults and ceilings stayed; Art Deco flair and Golden Horn views came with the renovation. And tucked in the garden, a 300-year-old hammam still runs.
