The Gleneagles Hotel
Grand country estate meets modern luxury. Interiors lean into Scottish heritage without feeling stuffy — think roll-top baths in bold colours, whisky decanters on walnut sideboards, and oil paintings of Highland landscapes. Evenings have a distinct 1920s cocktail-lounge energy, especially in the American Bar. The whole estate carries a faintly cinematic quality, like an old Balmoral crossed with a contemporary design hotel.

Why It Matters
The only venue in Europe to have hosted both the Ryder Cup (2014) and the Solheim Cup. Home to Restaurant Andrew Fairlie, the only two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Scotland. Received the Michelin Guide's Three Key distinction in 2024, the UK Condé Nast Readers' Choice Award for Best Resort in Europe (2025), and was named The Times Hotel of the Year.
Opened in 1924 as Scotland's 'eighth wonder of the world,' Gleneagles is an 850-acre estate in Perthshire that operates simultaneously as a world-class golf resort, a serious spa destination, and home to Scotland's only two-Michelin-starred restaurant. Three championship courses, 50+ expert-led activities, and 233 bedrooms (comprehensively renovated post-Ennismore acquisition) make this one of the most fully loaded country estates in Europe. Getting there takes planning — roughly 45 minutes by car from Edinburgh, or a train to Gleneagles station with complimentary hotel transfer.
