The Gwen lives inside the historic 1929 McGraw-Hill Building on Chicago's Magnificent Mile — and the Art Deco facade, sculpted by pioneering artist Gwen Lux, is the real thing, not a theme. Inside you get 311 renovated rooms and suites where 1930s glamour and contemporary design genuinely coexist: brass fixtures, jewel-toned colors, animated wallpaper behind the bed. The rooftop restaurant and bar, Upstairs at The Gwen, runs all day. And then there's the glamping tent on the 16th-floor terrace — Chicago's first urban glamping concept — with skyline views that make it worth the novelty.

The crown jewel. Situated on the 16th floor, this two-bedroom suite is the largest and most theatrical space in the building. Three bathrooms, a separate dining hall, a full living room, and — the real draw — a 1,200 sq ft open-air terrace with views straight down Michigan Avenue to the Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower. Suites feature murals inspired by Gwen Lux's sculptures, mini-fridges, 65" TVs, Molton Brown toiletries, and a deep soaking tub in the master bath big enough to earn genuine praise. A pull-out sofa bed sleeps additional guests. The terrace is also the base for the hotel's urban glamping experience (May–Sept).

The entry suite — a sophisticated step up from the guest rooms with a separate sitting area and the Chicago skyline framed in the windows. Some configurations include a private terrace. Contemporary artwork honoring Gwen Lux throughout.

Chicago's first urban glamping concept, set on the Gwen Lux Suite's 1,200 sq ft 16th-floor terrace. A fully fitted luxury tent with a queen bed, outdoor seating area, welcome bites, and turndown treats. Sleeps up to six across the tent and suite.
