The Heritage House Resort
Rustic-luxe coastal retreat. Think gas fireplaces, rainfall showers, private decks with crashing ocean views, farm-to-fork dining, and a garden-to-glass lounge. Romantic without being fussy. The property is spread across multiple cottage buildings and a historic main building, so it feels more like a private compound than a hotel.
Book the 'Same Time, Next Year' room if you're a film fan — it's around $600–$700/night but genuinely iconic
Why It Matters
One of the very few properties on the Mendocino coast with genuine oceanfront cliffside acreage — 37 acres of it. The 'Same Time, Next Year' film cottage is a cult draw. Mendocino County wine focus in the lounge is exceptionally deep, and the grounds alone (trails, gazebo on the cliff, forest paths) are worth the stay.
Heritage House Resort sits on 37 acres of unspoiled cliffside on the Mendocino coast, about 4 miles south of Mendocino village in Little River. The property has welcomed guests for over 100 years and went through a full renovation in recent years — historic bones like wooden rafters stayed, but 59 rooms and suites got a clean, contemporary makeover. It's also the filming location for the 1978 Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn film 'Same Time, Next Year,' and that room is still bookable today.
