Hiramatsu Atami is built around a concept as simple as it is rare: a world-class French restaurant that happens to have 13 rooms attached. Founded by chef Hiroyuki Hiramatsu — a Francophile who modeled the idea on out-of-the-way French auberges where you stay because the food is too good to leave — the hotel sits on a steep hillside above Atami Bay, about 45 minutes from Tokyo by Shinkansen. The architecture is a conversion of a 1985–88 private sukiya-zukuri country villa, all dark timber, washi screens, and exquisite joinery. Every single room faces the ocean.

The hotel functions as a miniature art museum throughout its public spaces and rooms. Works include surrealist paintings by Joan Miró, landscapes by Tamako Kataoka, and bold shodo calligraphy by renowned calligrapher Yuichi Inoue. Model ships reference the region's maritime heritage.
The Atami Seaside Fireworks Festival runs more than 10 times per year. The hotel offers a scheduled package: dinner at 5:30pm, transfer to Atami Castle at 8:00pm for the fireworks, then transport back. Yukata rental and dressing service also available.
The hotel can arrange golf at the nearby Grand Fields Country Club. The course features views of Mt. Fuji to the west and Suruga Bay from the teeing grounds, set in a traditional Japanese strolling garden with rolling hills, tea fields, and a waterfall. A distinctly scenic, relaxed layout.
