Hoxton, Chicago
Industrial-chic boutique with a strong social scene. The lobby is designed to be lived in — sofas, good coffee, laptops welcome. Feels more like a cool neighborhood hangout that also has hotel rooms than a traditional hotel.

Why It Matters
It's a converted meatpacking warehouse that delivers on all three floors — a rooftop Peruvian restaurant by a James Beard Award-winning chef, a basement speakeasy-style cocktail lounge with live jazz, and a seasonal rooftop pool with city views. The Hoxton's formula of genuinely good food and bar programming (open to the public) is what sets it apart from comparable design hotels in Chicago.
The Hoxton, Chicago occupies a converted meatpacking warehouse in Fulton Market — and the bones of that building are very much still visible. Exposed concrete ceilings, warehouse-scale floor-to-ceiling windows, unfinished industrial edges. But the Hoxton has dressed it up well: mid-century furniture, leather headboards, bedding designed by local artist Cody Hudson, and over 350 works of art curated by Chicago gallery Johalla Projects. The result is 182 rooms that feel genuinely considered rather than just on-trend. Three on-site restaurants and bars — including a Peruvian rooftop from celebrity chef Stephanie Izard and a basement cocktail bar with live music — make it as popular with locals as with hotel guests.
