Why It Matters

The only hotel actually inside Houston's Theater District, a Texas Historical Landmark, and a Historic Hotel of America. Its 100-year centennial in 2026 is a genuine milestone. The complimentary gourmet breakfast buffet and in-room snacks are included at every tier — rare at this price point. Ranked #4 in the U.S. on Tripadvisor's Best of the Best Awards 2023.

The Lancaster has been doing this since 1926 — when it opened as the Auditorium Hotel and started collecting celebrity guests like a century-long scrapbook. Today it's a 12-story, 93-room boutique property sitting on what is genuinely the best corner in Houston's Theater District: the Houston Symphony's Jones Hall is literally across the street, the Alley Theatre and Wortham Center are across the other. The hotel underwent a full renovation and now pairs its historic bones — arched penthouse windows, original architect Joseph Finger's bones — with a serious contemporary Texas art collection spanning over 200 works by artists including Mark Flood, Trenton Doyle Hancock, and Robert Rauschenberg.
