The Largo
Nordic-meets-Portuguese understated luxury. Residential, calm, artisan-driven. No lobby desk, no formal check-out time — more like a well-curated private house than a conventional hotel.
Ask the team to arrange a studio visit with one of the artisans whose work you see in the hotel — this is a genuine highlight, not a tick-box tourist experience.
Why It Matters
Commissioned with architect Frederico Valsassina and Space Copenhagen (the studio behind the original Noma), The Largo is Porto's most considered small luxury hotel. Nearly every object — from bedding to ceramics — was made by Portuguese artisans. The ratio of 105 staff to 18 rooms is extraordinary. Chef Nuno Mendes (formerly of the Chiltern Firehouse in London) runs the restaurant downstairs, and the hotel holds listings on Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts and Virtuoso.
The Largo is 18 rooms spread across five connected heritage buildings — 15th through 20th century — on Largo de São Domingos in Porto's historic center. Danish studio Space Copenhagen stripped the interiors back to their bones and filled them with Nordic calm: muted neutrals, natural stone, brass, soft linens, and local ceramics made by artisans you can actually go visit. It opened quietly in 2023 and has stayed deliberately quiet since. The concept, from Copenhagen-based hospitality group Annassurra, is less 'hotel' and more 'friend with a very good apartment who happens to know every interesting person in Porto.'

How you'll actually spend your days.
Guests can visit the makers whose work fills the hotel — potters, textile artists, furniture craftspeople — in their homes or workshops. These are genuine friendships the hotel has built over years, not tourism arrangements.
Guests start with a barista-led coffee tasting, then work with the hotel's ceramicist to learn about the designs behind The Largo's signature tableware. The session ends with each guest creating their own ceramic cup to take home.
The hotel's signature hiking experience: a curated Caminho de Santiago pilgrimage route, fully arranged and bespoke — every logistical detail handled so guests can focus entirely on the journey. A rare offering for a city hotel.
Begin at the fish market with the hotel's chef, meeting the trusted fishmonger and selecting the day's catch. Back in the hotel's open kitchen, guests help prepare the meal collaboratively. The day closes around the table sharing the dish created together.
The hotel's private Riva 63 Virtus motor yacht (M/Y Largo) departs from Porto's riverside into the Douro Valley. Led by Captain Afonso Rosas and a sommelier, the day includes passing through the Douro's massive river locks (among the highest in Europe), wine pairings from small regional producers, a casual chef-prepared lunch on board, and optional visits to a friend's quinta. Journeys can be tailored upstream to vineyards or along the coastline.
A seasonal programme designed hand-in-hand with Porto's cultural community. Includes workshops, after-hours museum access, architecture walks led by local architects, and immersive culinary masterclasses. Changes with the season.
Guests can explore the landscapes of the Douro Valley in vintage cars, arranged by the hotel's concierge team.
