The Leeway
Mid-century motel bones with cabin-cool interiors. Think artisan finishes, warm wood panels, handmade ceramics, and Brooklinen sheets — not rustic roughing it. Camp vibes without the splinters.
The riverfront area is the crown jewel — access it through the property's wooded path and claim Adirondack chairs early
Why It Matters
Formerly Kate's Lazy Meadow, one of the Catskills' most iconic lodgings. The 2023 renovation brought in serious design talent (Field Study Studio, A+C architecture) and a curated kit-of-parts approach to furnishings that reads more like a design hotel than a motel. Listed in both Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Featured in Bloomberg, NY Post, and Chronogram.
The Leeway is a nine-unit boutique motel sitting on six acres along the Esopus Creek in Mount Tremper, NY — about 2.5 hours from Manhattan. The property has a genuinely interesting backstory: it opened as a roadside motel in the 1950s, was transformed into the kitschy and beloved Kate's Lazy Meadow by B-52s singer Kate Pierson in 2004, and then got a full gut renovation in 2023 by new owners Josh Reznick and Noah Nierenberg. The result keeps the motel's low-slung layout and Catskills spirit but layers in serious design talent — interior work by Andrew Cohen of Field Study Studio, architecture by Joshua Pulver of A+C, and millwork by Sam Moyer. Rock-and-roll photography from Tom Gundelfinger O'Neal (think: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young rehearsing before Woodstock) hangs on the walls, and every surface from Pampa rugs to BKF leather butterfly chairs was chosen with intention.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Complimentary yoga classes from local studios are offered on select weekends. Check availability when booking as scheduling varies.
The property has private frontage on the Esopus Creek at the western edge of the six acres. Swim, wade, or just sit at the water's edge. The creek is lined by tall pines and lit up with string lights in the evenings, which is where guests naturally congregate.
Seasonal fire pit by the creek with firewood provided. This is the social hub of the property in the evenings — guests from different units tend to gather here with drinks.
The Catskills is the birthplace of American dry fly fishing and the Esopus Creek runs right through the property. More experienced guests can fish directly from the property; first-timers should ask the team to arrange a guide. Best in spring and fall.
Hammocks strung between the pines along the river and Adirondack chairs positioned to face Mt. Pleasant ridge. Every room has access to outdoor seating.
A large open meadow on the property is set up for outdoor games and general lounging. Good for groups.
Charcoal and camping grills available on the property by the creek side, with picnic tables and outdoor seating. Stock up on provisions at Bread Alone or Adams Fairacre Farms on the way.
