The Lofton Hotel
Boutique-origin, design-forward urban hotel with a sleek, slightly theatrical aesthetic. Not flashy for the sake of it — the design has a coherent point of view, and the bones of the independent original still show through.
Ask the front desk about a complimentary day pass to Life Time Fitness across the street — the enormous facility has a 25-meter indoor lap pool, group classes, and far more equipment than the on-site gym
Why It Matters
One of the best-located hotels in Minneapolis — directly across from Target Center with a Skyway connection, steps from First Avenue and the Hennepin Theatre district, and a short walk to Target Field. Has a full-service spa (Embury Spa) on the 6th floor, which is rare for this price tier downtown. The Cosmos restaurant has been an in-demand neighborhood fixture for over 20 years.
Built as a one-off independent hotel in the Plymouth Building — a 22-story downtown tower with granite staircases and oversized windows — The Lofton has gone through a few brand chapters, from Graves 601 to Loews to its current life under Hilton's Tapestry Collection. It carries its independent DNA well. Public spaces run with zebra-striped Japanese hardwood, futuristic furnishings, and considered lighting. Rooms come with hardwood floors, Italian linens, limestone-topped bathroom vanities, and glass basins. The service skews Midwestern: friendly, unpretentious, and genuinely helpful — which is harder to find than it sounds.
