The Mark Hotel
Bold, glamorous Upper East Side luxury with a fashion-forward twist — more Anna Wintour than Wall Street banker. Jacques Grange's interiors punch hard on color and pattern without ever feeling chaotic.
The Mark Bar operates first-come, first-served — no reservations. Get there early on weekends.
Why It Matters
Named the only New York City hotel on The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025 list (one of just two U.S. properties on it). Home to North America's largest hotel penthouse at 10,000 sq ft. The ground-floor restaurant is by Jean-Georges Vongerichten; the bar is a genuine neighborhood institution.
The Mark sits in a 1927 Art Deco building on Madison Avenue — one block from Central Park and eight minutes on foot from the Met. Designer Jacques Grange overhauled every inch of it, bringing in pale peachy neutrals, sycamore wood, nickel accents, and those now-iconic black-and-white striped marble bathrooms. It's Upper East Side through and through, yet the vibe skews more stylishly downtown than stuffy old money: Jean-Georges Vongerichten runs the kitchen, Caviar Kaspia occupies a corner of the ground floor, and the lobby fills with Vogue editors and Met Gala guests every May.
