The Merchant Baku
Art Deco boutique with a Caspian maritime soul. Think Great Gatsby aboard an old Caspian steamer — ship murals, an original ceramic fireplace evoking Baku's 'Paris of the Caucasus' era, and plush rooms that are actually generous in size.

Why It Matters
One of Baku's only proper boutique hotels with genuine historical character — a Tablet Hotels listing, Green Key eco-certification, and a serious cocktail program (barrel-aged and smoked drinks) at the Latitude & Longitude bar that guests consistently rave about.
The Merchant Baku occupies a stately 1858 building that was once headquarters of the Caspian Shipping Company, sitting just 200 meters from Baku Boulevard and the Caspian seafront promenade. Sixty-three rooms lean into Art Deco and Art Nouveau French styles — Caspian ship murals, Azerbaijani carpets on marble floors, a magnificent ceramic fireplace in the lounge. There is no pool and no parking, and the hotel sits on a pedestrian-only street, but the location and character justify every trade-off.
