The Moorings Hotel & Restaurant
Gallic charmer — laid-back glamour with a neighbourhood bistro feel. Cosy, intimate, and quietly stylish without any stuffiness.
Oyster Happy Hour runs 5–6pm daily: freshly shucked Jersey oysters for £1.50 each with any drink at the bar.
Why It Matters
Jersey's first and only Mr & Mrs Smith hotel. Michelin Guide selected. 2 AA Rosettes. A listed building on Gorey Pier that's been a local institution since 1851, now with designer rooms, a yoga studio, and some of the best food on the island.
The Moorings is a family-run restaurant with rooms sitting right on Gorey Pier, with Mont Orgueil Castle looming behind and the beach out front. It's been welcoming guests since 1851, but owners Matthew and Iselin Jones overhauled it post-2021 with designer furnishings and a serious food offer. The food is the main event — French-influenced with local Jersey seafood, a Scandinavian twist, and cocktails worth lingering over.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Electric bikes available to hire through the hotel — by the day or for the whole stay. Jersey's cycle paths, green lanes, and coastal routes are ideal for leisurely riding without the hills being a problem.
Jersey's 12-metre tidal range makes for dramatic coastal fishing. The hotel can point you toward guided fishing trips — catching from a boat or wading out at low tide to fish from exposed islets.
Sandy beach directly in front of the hotel (part of the old harbour). The real locals' spot is behind the castle — ask Matthew or Iselin for directions to the secluded swim spot.
The 48-mile Jersey Coastal Path starts practically from the door. A rugged trail of cliff climbs and windswept descents with sea views throughout. The hotel can advise on the best sections and local swimming spots.
The 800-year-old castle looms directly over the hotel. Open for guided tours of its battlements, statues, and modern art installations. A short walk from the front door.
Daily from 5–6pm at the bar. Freshly shucked Jersey oysters for £1.50 each with any drink. A genuine local ritual and one of the best-value things to do at the hotel.
Two or three classes per day at The Studio, led by Pam Toy of Pure Yin and her team. Suitable for all levels. Open to guests and locals. Book via the Pure Yin website (thestudio.je) or contact Pam directly for private sessions.
