The Palmetto Hotel
Eccentric Lowcountry boutique — think stylish country house meets urban Charleston townhome. Soothing creams, greens, and gold accents. A palmetto-tree crystal chandelier anchors the lobby. Quirky, layered, and very intentional.
Ask for a balcony room — the Juliet balconies on the Deluxe King Balcony and Premium King Balcony categories are worth the upgrade for the fresh salt air alone
Why It Matters
AAA Four Diamond rated and ranked #2 in Charleston by Condé Nast Traveler. Built directly atop Charleston's original 17th-century city walls. Entirely king-bed rooms, complimentary continental breakfast every morning, and included custom bicycles for exploring the city — perks you don't expect at this price point.
The Palmetto opened in March 2023 in Charleston's French Quarter, occupying a building literally constructed atop the remains of the city's original colonial-era wall. It's a 45-room boutique property that wears Charleston's history on its sleeve — vintage black-and-white party photos, antiques reupholstered in Lowcountry motifs, original early 1900s artwork next to custom contemporary pieces — without feeling like a museum. The lobby doubles as a proper living room, and the ethos here is warm Southern hospitality over cool-hotel posturing.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The concierge can arrange private boat tours, sunset sails, and harbor tours through local partner operators. Not on-site, but bookable through the hotel.
Custom branded bicycles are available to all guests at no charge. Great for riding along the waterfront to the Pineapple Fountain, exploring Rainbow Row, or cruising King Street. Bikes come with baskets.
Bookable through the hotel's Sip and Savor package. Two tickets to a guided culinary tour of downtown's most notable local spots, plus two complimentary signature cocktails at the Lobby Bar when you return.
The hotel's haunted Charleston package includes two tickets to Ghost City Tours, a copy of the book Haunted Charleston, and a custom map of supernatural hot spots around the city. Great for history buffs with a taste for the macabre.
Part of the hotel's Liberty Trail Tour Package. A guided walk through the original walled city (approx. 1.5 hours), directly relevant given the hotel sits atop those very city walls. Ends with a complimentary Old City Wall cocktail at the Lobby Bar. Available March 1–December 30, 2026.
